Roger Monroe McGee entered into the loving embrace of Jesus on May 22, 2025.
Born on May 6, 2011, Roger entered the world in challenging circumstances. On February 17, 2016, he began a new chapter when he was adopted by his loving parents, Brian and Marybeth McGee, alongside his brothers, Michael and Thomas.
Roger was a resilient, kind, loving, and remarkable child. He carried a settled sense of peace and contentment in all he did. Each morning began with a smile and, regardless of the weather, Roger would look outside and say, “It’s gonna be a beautiful day.” And if you had the joy of spending even a few moments with Roger, it truly was.
Though Roger faced unique challenges, he had an extraordinary ability to understand and express his faith. Whether through drawing, storytelling, listening to worship music, or simply playing, Roger lived wholeheartedly. He loved his class at Riverside Middle School and the incredible teachers who nurtured his learning in ways many thought were not possible. Roger was an overcomer.
He was an adventurous eater—especially fond of fish—and he delighted in trying new foods. He loved Jesus, music, and Mexican food. These passions often came together when he asked to play Mexican Rhapsody by Slugs and Bugs—something we’re sure he’d want you to look up and play loudly. Roger loved to sing about the God he adored.
Participating in youth group brought Roger great joy. He treasured his Sunday School class and the teachers who invested the time and care to help him grow in faith, even though he didn’t learn in the same ways as most children. Through their love and the work of the Holy Spirit, a deep and abiding faith took root in Roger’s heart. While we take comfort in the certainty of his saving faith and the joy he now knows, we miss him terribly and long for the day we are reunited.
Roger is survived by his parents, Brian and Marybeth McGee; his brothers, Michael and Thomas; his grandmothers, Mary Bates and Shirley McGee; his uncle, Michael Bates (wife Monica); and cousin, Emersyn.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Michael Bates Sr. and Elder Tommy McGee
