Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Mrs. Shirley Jean Mock, 91, loving wife of the late Gene Mock.
Shirley was a native of Cordele, GA and was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Johnnie Mae Towler. She was a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the Young at Heart. After 30 years she retired from the VA as supervisor of the ward administration. Shirley loved to visit Charleston and spending family vacations at Edisto Beach. She was an avid reader. And enjoyed the Hallmark Channel. She loved to bake, especially at Christmas and was known for her strawberry bread. Christmas was a special time for her with a big family gathering on Christmas Eve and playing the role of Mrs. Claus with her husband Gene as Santa Claus visiting many school and church groups. She had a very extensive Santa collection that filled her home at Christmas.
Family members include her daughters: Marcia Phillips, Teresa Willis and Wanda Taylor (Hal), and stepsons: Curt Garnto (Harriett) and Steve Garnto (Mary), 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, her brother Ronnie Towler (Michelle), Sister-in-law, Gloria Mock and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by husbands Earl Garnto and Russell Willis, her parents Wilbur and Johnnie Mae Towler, brother Buddy Towler and grandchildren: Russel Reed and Keith Barnes.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor Ben Wills officiating.
Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Benjamin Price, Jonathan Price, Heather Vazquez, Jake Taylor, Ashlyn Taylor, and Hal Taylor.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church at 5555 Hereford Farm Rd, Evans, GA 30809.
