Virginia Sue Vidal, 80, entered into rest Wednesday, October 11, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Born to James Corley and Mary Mims Corley, she grew up in Burke County where she worshipped with her family at Hopeful Baptist Church and was a graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She married the love of her life, Mac Manual Vidal in September, 1975 who preceded her in death in August, 1989. They enjoyed their life together cooking, taking trips, and raising their family.
She worked as a civil service administrative assistant at Fort Gordon in Augusta. She was known for being able to handle her job with ease leaving all with a smile on their face. For almost twenty years, she took time each year to work as a cashier at The Master’s tournament where she enjoyed forming new friendships and meeting new people.
Sue never met a stranger and was always eager to show off her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. To her friends and family, Sue was known for her quick wit, humor, and infectious laugh. She loved dancing, spending time with family and friends, and taking the time to enjoy a nice meal out.
While Sue endured a long battle with dementia, she would never want these things to define her. She had a strong independent spirit, and she was always interested in meeting new people, finding reasons to laugh, and taking time to dance through life.
Sue’s family would like to thank the excellent care from Augusta Gardens and Pruitt Hospice. The family would also like to thank the numerous doctors and nurses who provided her with exceptional care, especially, Dr. Daniel Boone.
Sue is survived by her children: son, Samuel James Vidal, Sr.; daughter, Sherri Renee Vidal.
Grandchildren: Shelby Nicole Hardenbrook (Justin), Samuel “Sammy” James Vidal, Jr., Ashley Morgan Vidal, Syerra Alexis Reeves, Carlton Douglas Vidal.
Great grandchildren: Ava Nicole Herron, Raelyn Storm Hardenbrook, Jace Daniel James Hardenbrook, and Nathan Laron Harris, Jr.
She is also survived by her sister, Mary Louise Corley Byrd, and she is preceded in death by her sister, Terri Rosenberg. Sue is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the unwavering support of her life-long friends, Cecil and Paula Herrin, and Sue was forever grateful for love, support, and care she received from her niece, Lisa Byrd.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Hillcrest Memorial Park at the Chapel Mausoleum. Immediately following the visitation, the service will begin at 11:00 AM in the chapel with the Reverend William F. Harrell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Dementia Society of America, Alzheimer’s Association, or Augusta Gardens.
