Susan Borman LaFrance, age 77, of Martinez, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, July 9 with her loving husband by her side.
Susan was born in Tokyo, Japan on January 25th, 1948 to the late Robert and Grace Borman. After several moves with her military family, she settled in Columbia, SC where she went to Dentsville High School. From there she moved on to Newberry College and then to South Carolina State for her teaching degrees.
Susan was as much a child of Pelham, SC as anywhere else. Her grandparents, James and Frances Davis, built the family home in Pelham in 1915 and Susan spent every holiday and most of her summers in Pelham. Her mother, Grace, retired to the family home and lived with two of Susan’s aunts, and they all enjoyed many years of fellowship at the Davis home with family and friends. In recent years, Susan enjoyed attending and singing at Ebenezer United Methodist and visiting with friends in Pelham.
Susan was a lifelong educator, having taught school in Orangeburg, SC and Augusta, GA for over 30 years. Even in retirement she often served as a substitute teacher, and she recently worked at Apparo Academy supporting their educational mission.
Susan loved to sing. She was a member of the Augusta Primetime Singers and often sang solos in church or other community gatherings. She played the piano in her younger years and passed along her love of singing to her son.
She was also very outgoing and sociable and right up until her illness, she was out and about nearly every day with friends and various groups in the Augusta area. She enjoyed trips to small towns to see the local flair of the communities. She loved to shop for vintage and unique items and was quite the collector of household items and especially holiday decorations. She enjoyed decorating with the seasons and shopping with her friends for the next year’s latest items.
Susan was a lifelong Christian and loved her savior, Jesus Christ. She was active in Bible studies and a faithful member at several local churches over the 40+ years she lived in the Augusta area.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling, a sister, Regina Rakar. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Russ LaFrance; her son Matt Boltin (Nisa) of Roswell, Ga and one grandson, Brooks.
A private family service will be held graveside at Ebenezer church in Pelham, SC.
