Tara Lettie Henry

Augusta, GA – Tara Lettie Henry, 70, entered into rest on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Ms. Henry was born on November 12, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland, but had resided in the Augusta area for most of her adult life. She obtained both her bachelors and masters degrees from Augusta College. Ms. Henry was a special education teacher in Richmond and Warren counties for 29 years and lived her final years in Warrenton. She was awarded “Teacher of the Year” in Richmond County while on the faculty at Dorothy A. Hains Elementary School and served for 20 years as a kitchen staff leader at Skyland Summer Camp for Girls.

Tara truly spent her life humbly caring for others more than herself. This began with all of her younger siblings when she was an adolescent and young adult. Her caring nature continued as a teacher of primarily special needs children with significant physical and/or significant mental disabilities, as the leader of the kitchen staff at a girls’ summer camp, as the primary caretaker of an elderly parent, as the primary caretaker of a sibling with mental health challenges, and as a volunteer with various charities. Tara loved taking trips and spending time over many years with her two best friends, Mary and Jay.

Tara loved crafting and her hand made cards were treasured by the recipients. She also gifted special craft projects which were especially enjoyed by her grand nieces and nephews. Tara and her friends worked together many times donating food and clothing, as well as, filling shoe boxes for the annual Operation Christmas Child project. Most importantly, Tara loved Jesus and voiced how much she looked forward to being with Him – now she is at peace and in His very presence!

Tara is survived by her siblings: Corky Henry (Cindy), Heidi Henry, Sam Henry; nieces and nephews: Christia Paul (Aaron), David Henry (Kinsey), Brittany Dixon (Drew), Tiffany Streiferd, April King (Brad), Hayden Anabtawi; grandnieces and grandnephews: Tyler, Palmer, Luke, Reese, Jack, Bennett. She was preceded in death by parents: Lt. Col. (Ret.) David Ellwood Henry and Athie Young Henry.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with Sam Henry officiating.
