Teddy Lee York, 82, died peacefully on Sunday, August 31st.

Born in Royston, Georgia on June 29, 1943, Teddy was the son of the late Ralph Plumer and Lillie Mae Atkinson York.

Teddy graduated from Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia, in 1961 and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Augusta College in 1976. After a 40-year career with DSM Chemicals, he retired in 2006 as Director of Material Resources. Teddy was an active member of Abilene Baptist Church for over thirty years, volunteering many hours for various church programs and countless hours for the Broad Street Ministry, and he was a disaster relief volunteer through the Southern Baptist Convention.

In addition to his parents, Teddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Marilyn Kesler York, along with his older sisters Glaydelle York Weaver and Geneva York Viera. Teddy is survived by daughter Melanie York Shepherd and husband Sandy of Savannah; son Wesley York and wife Blakely of Winder; and four grandsons: Edwin Shepherd, Ashton York, Collin York, and Embry York. He is also survived by his brothers Edward York of Bonaire, Georgia, Richard York of Rome, Georgia, and Rudy York of Royston, Georgia.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Abilene Cemetery in Martinez, Georgia with Rev. Bill Harrell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abilene Baptist Church (3917 Washington Rd, Martinez GA 30907), Broad Street Ministries (20 Broad St, Augusta GA 30901), or Hope Haven, a faith-based support program for people living with dementia (℅ St. John’s Church, 1 West Macon Street, Savannah GA).
