The Reverend Harold E. Bahlow, priest of the Diocese of East Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025 in Evans, Georgia where he resided. He was 89 years old.
Father Bahlow was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He was educated at Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit and St. John’s Provincial Seminary in Plymouth, Michigan. In 1961, he was ordained to the Diaconate and the following year ordained to the Priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church.
He was the associate pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Detroit, Michigan from 1962-1966, St. Mel’s in Dearborn Heights, Michigan from 1966-1969, Our Lady of the Lakes, Waterford, Michigan from 1969-1970 and St. Veronica, East Detroit, Michigan from 1970-1972.
He served as a Reserve Military Chaplain from 1965-1974. He served as a Health Care Administrator from 1974-1997. He received a Master’s Degree in Health Systems Management in 1963.
Father Bahlow was received as a member into the Episcopal Church in 1992 and received into the Episcopal Priesthood in 1995. He served as Interim and Supply Priest from 1995-1998. He was Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in St. Johns, Michigan from 1998-2000. He then served as Rector of St. Columba, Bristol, Tennessee and St. Thomas, Elizabethton, Tennessee from 2000-2010 and Priest in Charge of St. Mary the Virgin, Jonesborough, Tennessee and St. Bartholomew, Mountain City, Tennessee from 2000-2010.
He served on Bishop and Council from 2002-2004 and Chairperson of Hate Crimes Task Force from 2002-2010. He was Priest in Charge at Holy Cross in Thomson, Georgia and at Trinity Church in Harlem, Georgia from 2010-2012. He retired in May 2012 due to illness.
Father Bahlow is survived by his wife Arnetta, daughter Tina Boswell, son-in-law Max Boswell, two grandchildren Taylor and Mason Boswell, and two brothers Leonard Gignac and Gerald Gignac.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at Our Savior Episcopal Church with Fr. Al Crumpton and Fr. Mike Houle officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the church.
