Tanya Akens Guess

Augusta, GA-Tanya Guess, 81, entered into rest Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Tanya was born in Big Stone Gap, VA. She moved to N. Augusta, SC in 1963 where she would spend the next twenty years. She later moved to Lincoln County, Ga where she would spend over thirty years living on Strom Thurmond Lake with her husband, Bob.

Tanya had a passion for reading, cooking and spending time on the lake. She also enjoyed hosting parties where she would show off her excellent cooking skills. Tanya had a great love for animals, especially dogs.

Family members include her son, Robert H. Fields Jr. aka “Punkin,” (Emily); one grandchild: Lily Annabelle Fields; sister: Gerline Gray, and brother: Kenneth Akens (Shirley); stepdaughter: Twila Kingsmore (Sam); stepson: Robert L. Guess Jr.; four step grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lillie and Jess Akens Sr; her husband: Bob; sister: Eula Tignor; brother: Jess Akens Jr.; and stepson: Craig Guess.

A special thank you to Karen Hampton (lifelong friend) and Angela Tignor (great niece) for their ongoing help, support and love over the last few years.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 3321 Wheeler Rd, Augusta, GA 30909. The family will receive friends at a reception in the Parish Hall following the service.
