Martinez, GA – Entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was predeceased by his parents Mr. Wade C. Smith, Magaret Smith James, loving stepfather Ira H James and brother Cecil Smith. Wade Smith, 84, life partner to Amanda Story. Wade was born in Allendale, SC but grew up in the Augusta area, attending Hephzibah High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1958 to 1962 on the USS Independence at the Cuban Blockade. He retired from International Paper, after 34 years of service in pulp mill as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a faithful member of Marvin United Methodist Church, serving on the MLT board and dedicating his service wherever needed.
Wade was an avid hunter. He loved taking hunting trips throughout many states hunting mostly wildlife. He also enjoyed his trips to Michigan with Amanda and very close friends riding snowmobiles and good eating.
In addition to Amanda, he is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Smith Belt (John), son, William Wade Smith (deceased beloved daughter-in-law Jennifer). Wade was a loving father figure to Michelle Story Clark, Jessica Story and Eric Story (Carey). A devoted brother Dwight Stanley James (Brenda), Houston, TX, brother Neal Smith (Dena), sisters Faye Smith Powell and Beverly Smith Pitts (Bob), Grandchildren: Wyatt Smith (Taylor), Jenna Smith, Cody Willis (Alex), Ally Willis (Quentin), Nick Belt (Kaitlin), Christopher Belt, Josh Belt (Taylor), Joshua Clark, Jesse Clark, Morgan Story, Emma Story and Seth Story. His seven great grandchildren (Ashlynn, Gatlin, Lyla, Tripp, Waylon, Benjamin and Kora). Numerous loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 1:00 P.M – 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home with the service at 3:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Chapel. With Rev. Ben Wills officiating.
Pallbearers are Cody Willis, Wyatt Smith, Joshua Clark, Jesse Clark, Josh Belt, Ricky Poteet and Seth Story. Honorary pallbearers are co-workers and best friends of International Paper.
Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, GA.
