Blythe, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, January 1, 2026, Mr. Walter “Walt” Edward James, Jr. Mr. James is survived by his son: Gregory E. James (Melonie) of Appling; daughters: Sonya Teston of Augusta and Sherri James of Augusta; his brother: Douglas “Mac” James of Augusta; his loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Walt was the founder of Appliance Centers Southeast (Owner, Appliance Service Center of Augusta since 1959). He was a native of Blythe, GA, was retired from the U.S. Navy and Civil Service as an engineer and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation, Bronze Star, Korean and Vietnam Service Medals, Korean and Vietnam Campaign Medals, The Korean Presidential Unit Citation Navy Occupation, Good Conduct 3 Stars, and National Defense Medals. He was a former Navy Recruiting Officer in Augusta, GA, and a Veterans Affairs Officer. Walt was a member of VFW Post 3200, American Legion Post 63, First Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir for many years, the Cason Bruker Bible Class, First Baptist Church of North Augusta Bible Study Group, and the Bible Study Fellowship International at Warren Baptist Church (27 years without missing a note). He was the past present of the National Georgia Chapter of Power Engineers, served on the Board of Directors and was an Examining Chief Engineering Officer for the Georgia Engineering Licensing Board. He served many years on the Board of Richmond County Business Association. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 205, Augusta Shriners Club, a 32° Mason, York Rite Masons, past Commander of the Legion of Honor Alee Shriners Temple in Savannah, GA, past president of the Golf and Motor Units of Alee Temple, past vice-president the Augusta Shriners Club, a member of Green Meadows, Forest Hills, North Augusta Country Club, and several local golf courses – a member of the Forest Hills, Bartram Trail Sr. Gold Club, and Georgia Senior Golf Association. He was also a member of the The Shade Tree Model “A” Ford Club of America.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Dr. Rodger Murchison and Dr. Will Dyer officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cason Bruker Sunday School Class. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
