Augusta - Entered into rest on November 15, 2024, Mr. Wayne Edward McNeely (85), is the beloved husband of 63 years to Nelle McNeely and father of Deborah Salley (Larry), Joy Farrer (Randall). Wayne is lovingly known as Pops to his grandchildren: Gabbie Duvall (Matt), John William Salley (Melanie), Chloe Farrer (Taylor) and seven great-grandchildren. He is brother to: John McNeely, Jr. (Pat); sister: Patricia Gordy and his late brother Terry McNeely. Mr. McNeely is fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was born in Jefferson County but has lived in Augusta since 1958. He was a graduate of Louisville Academy and attended Bolen‘s Business College in Augusta. His first job was working at Southern Railroad then Coleman Motors Volkswagen Dealership before joining the US Postal Service and retiring with 37 years of service. He was a member of the National Guard and was called into active duty in 1961 at Fort Meade, Maryland for a year. Mr. McNeely loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was a longtime member of Warren Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Koinonia Sunday School Class. He also served in the children’s ministry at Warren, a job he absolutely loved. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and never missed cheering his Dawgs to a win.
The family will receive friends Monday night, November 18, 2024 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Thomas Poteet & Son.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Warren Baptist Church with Dr. David McKinley officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park
Memorials may be made to the Hope Women's Center.
