William Thomas "Tom" Greene, Jr.

William Thomas (Tom) Greene Jr., 78, entered into rest on January 12, 2026.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, he was the son of William Thomas Greene Sr. (Bill) and Joan von Sprecken Greene. Tom was a true “jack of all trades” and also a master of many. He was a musician, an artist, a skilled carpenter, a physics teacher, a pilot, television producer, friend, loving grandfather, father, and devoted husband.

He graduated high school from the Academy of Richmond County where he was drum major of the marching band. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Augusta College.

At the age of 16, Tom began his lifelong career in television at WJBF, Channel 6. He continued his career as Chief of Television Services for the Medical College of Georgia for 33 years. He directed the local broadcasts of the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon for 26 years working with both WAGT and WRDW. During all of this, Tom served as the director of television ministries at Trinity-on-the-Hill on Monte Sano Ave.

More than anything, Tom was a devoted husband and father. He married his wife of 57 years, the late Darlyn Reese Greene, on September 22, 1968. He is survived by his sons, William Thomas Greene, III (Davida), Lawrenceville, GA, and John Anthony Greene (Jennifer), Augusta, GA. He has seven grandchildren: Rachel Greene Stephens (Johnathan), Lawrenceville, GA; Rebekah Greene Stinson (Jacob), Huntsville, AL; Hannah Greene Sethman (Ron), Cleveland, TN; William Thomas Greene, IV (Alea), Harrison, TN; Holly Greene Rutland (Henry), Suwanee, GA; Ethan Anthony Greene, Augusta, GA; and John Thompson Greene, Augusta, GA.

He also leaves behind a sister, Joanne Greene (husband George Westafer and son Benjamin), a brother, John Henry von Sprecken Greene (wife Jan and daughter Emily), and 9 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held, Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet and Son Chapel with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers Tom would be honored if you would make a donation to the Children's Miracle Network or the CSRA Humane Society.
