Willis F. Roberson, Jr, (Wit), 95, beloved husband of Joan Roberson, passed away peacefully on May 13th, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Wit was born in Swainsboro, GA to Willis and Annie Lou Roberson and was the oldest of two siblings, Jerry Roberson and Patrica Valley. He moved to Augusta, GA in 1954 where he spent the rest of his life.
In 1955, he married the love of his life, Joan Turner Roberson. For the next 70 years together their lives were centered around family, providing a foundation instilled with faith, love, and a strong work ethic. They had 4 children: Lynn Roberson Brantley, Willis “Robbie” Roberson III (Tracy), Cliff Roberson (Paula), and Susan Roberson Spratling (John); grandchildren: David Willis Brantley (Jenny), Clifford Scott Brantley (Melissa), Chadwick Turner Brantley (Lucy), Daniel Ashton Brantley (Alexis), Kaitlin Cameron Avant (Austin), Parker Kelly Moore (Wynn), Lauren Taylor Roberson, Tyler Patrick Roberson (Hannah), Caroline Roberson Ticknor (Tanner), Samuel Clifford Roberson, Willis Turner Spratling (Abby), Mason Wesley Spratling (Caroline), Ivy Spratling Carter (Scout), and Liza Dell Spratling; 18 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Hilda Jean Kohn; former son-in-law: David Brantley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, sister, and his granddaughter, Emily Roberson.
Wit served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked at the Savannah River Site for a time and then became an insurance agent with Prudential. After retirement from sales, he continued to work at Pollard Lumber Company, delivering bark for almost 20 years, earning the name “Barkman”.
Above all, Wit’s favorite role was being a family man - a husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather. He always took time to show his love whenever he got the opportunity. He adored his wife and his greatest joy came from spending time with his ever-growing family.
When Wit was not at Clark’s Hill Lake on his golf cart, pontoon boat, or in the water teaching someone to water ski, he could be found at any one of the family members’ sporting events or school activities. He had a tremendous heart, was always approachable and had a smile for everyone, never meeting a stranger.
He had a great deal of wisdom and became a father figure to many.
Wit was great with his hands and was able to build beautiful pieces of furniture for friends and family, complete countless construction projects, and he even built the family lake house himself over 60 years ago. He could fix just about anything, and much of his time was spent selflessly doing that for others.
Wit was a diligent servant of the Lord and was a long-time member of Warren Church in Augusta.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. David McKinley and Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
