Dr. Wayne Douglas Beveridge (78), of Augusta, Georgia, passed away on December 14th, 2023, at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
He was born on May 2nd, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. A proud son to a Scottish immigrant, he was very early recognized for his scholastic abilities and earned a scholarship to the University School in Hunting Valley, Ohio. He graduated Cum Laude from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio with a degree in Chemistry. After college, he attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio with a specialization in Neurosurgery.
During his final year of residency, he was drafted into the United States Army and after completion of his training, he was stationed at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was there he met the love of his life and devoted wife of 44 years, Kristina Beveridge. He then accepted a position as Associate Professor of Adult and Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Georgia. He later opened a private practice where he served the Augusta community for over 40 years. While not originally from Augusta, this city and its’ people quickly became his proud hometown and extended family.
He was the most unique of men, a man of few words but many thoughts. He would do absolutely anything for anyone – except attend a party. He loved his patients, adored his family, and found peace in the North Carolina mountains. He was a coffee connoisseur, avid collector, Japanese Maple enthusiast, but most importantly, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife Kitty, his son Scott (Brianna, Henry (8), and Cora (6)), and his daughter Megan (Todd). He was preceded in death by his parents Jeanette and William Beveridge as well as his beloved doggies – especially Belle.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 18th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM and a memorial service will follow on Tuesday, December 19th at 2:00 PM, both at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Road.
He strongly believed hard work, kindness, and generosity were the strongest building blocks of a person. He was also so appreciative of the education he received and always credited that in part to the life he was able to build and provide for his family. As he loved to quote Dr. Seuss, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”
