Wallace L. Slater
Augusta, GA - Wallace Lester Slater died peacefully at home on October 2, 2023 in Evans, Georgia at the age of 80.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 58 years whom he adored: Patricia Ann (Allen) Slater; two sons: Brian Wallace Slater (Emma) and Kurt Hunter Slater (Christy); two grandchildren: Graeme Wallace Slater and Addie Evelyn Slater, and a sister: Edith Slater Vinson (Edie). He is preceded in death by his mother: Nina Graham Slater; father: Kelly H. Slater; brother: Harold Kelly Slater and brother-in-law: Thomas Marvin Vison III (Tim).
Wallace was born on May 17, 1943 in Americus, Georgia. He graduated from Americus High School in 1961. Wallace earned an Associate of Science degree from Georgia Southwestern State University and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Building Construction from Auburn University in 1967. He graduated from The United States Air Force Office Training School in 1968. He went on to serve his country proudly in Japan and Korea. He spent his professional career in the commercial construction business, building many schools and churches in the Augusta area through R.D. Brown Construction. He designed and built his family home in Evans, Georgia, where he lived for the last 43 years.
Wallace was a life-long methodist. He spent his early years at Lee Street Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the church and church choir. In Augusta, he joined Woodlawn United Methodist Church and later became a founding member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Wallace was a devoted family man who was immensely proud of his sons. Likewise, he adored his grandchildren. He was an avid deer hunter on the family farm in Americus, Georgia and also enjoyed fishing trips with his friends and family. Wallace was a wine aficionado and enjoyed collecting and sharing fine wines with family and friends. Wallace was a lifelong Auburn Tiger fan and loved rooting for his War Eagles.
The service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Road. The family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M. with a service following at 2:00 P.M.
